About Victoria
My name is Victoria (she/they) and I'm a licensed clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy via telehealth in English from San Jose to adults anywhere in California. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Palo Alto University (PAU) where my areas of emphasis in the program were LGBTQ+ Psychology and Diversity & Community Mental Health. My clinical experiences in the program began at the Sexual & Gender Identities Clinic at PAU's Gronowski Center and the rest of my clinical training has been in community mental health and college counseling settings in the Bay Area, primarily the South Bay. I also received a masters in clinical psychology from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and had clinical training in an intensive outpatient program and community mental health settings. Before all that, I received a bachelors in psychology from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I'm also a COVID-conscious therapist that continues to take precautions and understands the social and psychological impact of the pandemic as well as the interaction between those and physical health.
On a more personal note, I moved to San Jose from Milwaukee in 2011 and now consider it home where I live with my partner and cats. I'm half Chinese American and second or third generation depending how you look at it. My grandmother was born in the U.S. but my grandfather was born in China. I'm also half white and was raised in a fairly acculturated family from the Midwest. I'm only fluent in English. I'm pansexual, cisgender, and don't follow traditional gender norms. I'm not religious but that doesn't mean I think you shouldn't be. I value social justice, human rights (including client rights), and helping others when it's within my means. I believe necessities for living and living well (food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, education) should be accessible and affordable (or free). I mention all of this because sometimes seek out or wonder if their therapist can understand their perspective or values similar things. This isn't everything but it should give you a good idea.
In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, watching or reading sci-fi and fantasy, amateur astronomy, hiking, and reading about social justice, history, and politics (sometimes unenjoyable but I do it anyway). In recent years, I've been learning everything I can about COVID-19, especially what it does to the brain and how it impacts mental health.
